Tsunami Wave over the Grand Piano – Jayni Bloch 6 Sept 2026

In my dream I saw a beautiful Grand Piano standing in an empty vast space, like a beach. The next moment an enormous tsunami-like wave rises from the ocean in slow motion and hovers over the piano, covering it like a protective hand. I woke up in awe of the scene, wondering how come my mind conjured up a grand piano, which is not an object familiar to my everyday life.

Thinking about the meaning of such a vividly striking dream, I re-entered my emotions on the imagery which captured a profound tension between the stable, pristine, cultivated and elegant piano, containing profound creative expression, and the raw potential in the awe-inspiring power of the hovering wave. Traditionally the wave could represent emotion. Was this dream a premonition of a threatening emotional experience, a looming feeling of destruction, or a sense of Nature’s powerful force announcing its caution over vulnerable potential and creativity? The piano can also represent social structures and cultural institutions. This dream can possibly announce both, a caution and an awareness of higher forces at work: in my soul and in Nature. I feel that this higher force meeting what I have built so far, is offering me a lifechanging choice.  It is up to me to decide how this ‘limbo” wave will do, consume or empower.

Inside me, the sense of vulnerability was unmistakeable, but my curiosity about creation and choice was now heightened.

Collectively and culturally this imagery echoes the biblical story of the great flood where a rising sea consumes civilization and its structures to cleanse and make way for a new world. Archetypally, this dream also features the primal mother earth who reabsorbs her creations to give birth to a new beginning. All these possibilities are present to reveal the dissolution of rigid boundaries through surrender and cooperation between parts, creating more fluid wholeness amongst all; within and without.

A couple weeks after the dream, (16 September 2026), I woke up from sleep remembering a movie-scene where a grand piano was standing on a deserted beach. I jumped up to research where that scene came from. In 1993, the movie, THE PIANO, directed by Jane Campion, starring Holly Hunter, portrayed an unforgettable image of a grand piano sitting alone on a wild New Zealand Beach. The protagonist ADA returns to the beach to play on the piano. I remember this movie touched me deeply and though of how the character had to choose to leave her possession behind as a symbol of a willingness to let of of something that defined her to become something beyond it. Maybe that is the choice I must make.

Maybe, how I have defined myself and build ideas around my self-worth, image and creativity that needs redefining and re-examining. I am contemplating my choices and how and what I surrender now.
